SECURITY:  WEP/GPO Repeal Update

Sandra Bove & Cathy D’Agostino, Legislative Committee Co-Chairs

In 2016 both a Senate Bill (S 1651) and a House Bill (HR 973) to repeal the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) remain in effect.

The Senate Bill has been co-signed by both Senator Chris Murphy and Senator Richard Blumenthal. The House Bill has been co-signed by all CT representatives: Courtney, Esty, DeLauro, Himes, and Larson.

ARTC continues to advocate for the repeal of these unfair federal Social Security laws. We urge you to thank your CT Congress men and women for their support and to remind them of how these laws harm you. Far too many CT retired teachers, police officers, firefighters, health workers, postal workers, and other municipal workers are unfairly penalized by the GPO/WEP.
