ARTC Executive Committee Meets at the Legislative Office Building

Wayne P. Woodtke, Executive Director

ARTC’s Executive Committee met at the Legislative Office Building (LOB) on Tuesday, January 28, to discuss recent events surrounding the state’s decision to cut funding of the HIPA (Health Insurance Premium Account) from ⅓ to ¼.  Due to Administration manipulations that left even Appropriations Committee members stunned, Medicare reimbursements were used as part of the state’s contribution, reducing the contribution to ⅛.   This reduction in funding of HIPA by the state (which started occurring in  2010) is projected to put the fund in jeopardy by 2018!

The committee was addressed by the following;  Sen. Andrew Maynard, Rep. Mae Flexer, Rep. Gail Lavielle, Sen. Rob Kane, Rep. Noreen Kokoruda, and Sen. Paul Doyle.  All expressed dismay at the outcome of what they thought was a “done deal” at the ¼ contribution only to realize it was reduced to ⅛!
