PAC Update:
ARTC PAC
March 2009
Rick Cassar, PAC Chair
The
economy throughout the country is struggling to
revive and Connecticut is no exception. Although we
have relative security for our pension, there are
other concerns such as needed reforms of Social
Security, Health Insurance, and State Retiree Tax to
be presented to the legislature and acted upon by
ARTC.
Beyond our aspirations for improving retired
teachers’ benefits, is important to protect what we
currently have. PAC is in constant contact with the
State Capitol through our publicist and lobbyist.
This enables us to keep you informed via this
website and
www.guinanassociates.com about any current,
progressive or regressive legislation that is
proposed.
ARTC PAC has contributed to various legislators’
PACs during the year. We are anxious to work with
new House Speaker Chris Donovan and the legislature
to pass bills that are beneficial to us. It is
essential for us as retired teachers to be aware of
the positions taken by those running for state
office. It is in our best interest, in the best
interest of education, and in the best interest of
future retirees, that we are vigilant and proactive
in supporting those who support us.
The most ignored (but possibly most important) front
for ARTC are municipal elections. In benefiting this
cause, the greatest asset is you! Be aware of
positions politicians have taken and positions they
are likely to take. In the next election cycle, help
those most likely to help us. Let them know that you
are a proud member of the Association of Retired
Teachers of Connecticut.
